Eh hello Singaporeans! You ever feel like the older you get, the more things you start to dislike? Like, remember when clubbing till 3am was the highlight of your week? Now, you chiong ah? More like chiong to bed by 11pm! Let’s see what other things Singaporeans are sian-ing about these days.
Sian Life: Growing Up
- Life is getting more complex.
The Internet in general, I wish it was the 2000s again where it was useful enough to make your day easier, but didn’t completely take over your life and didn’t need a damn account for literally everything.
- Many Singaporeans are finding that things they used to enjoy, like late nights and crowded places, are becoming less appealing. The simple pleasures of life, like a quiet evening at home, are becoming more valuable as we age.
- Even driving on Singapore roads is becoming a source of frustration for some.
**Driving**. Gets scarier everyday, i’m shocked when someone actually uses a Turn Signal now.
The Real Problems Loh
- Rising cost of living
Work. I could be tending a garden and living my life in peace, but instead I have to work for corpos for barely livable wages.
- Many Singaporeans feel trapped in a cycle of working hard for wages that barely cover the rising cost of living. The dream of owning a garden and living a peaceful life seems increasingly out of reach for some.
- Social media drama and online arguments are also a major source of frustration.
How to Cope, Siao?
- Find joy in simpler things
Acceptable-Flower352: Online arguments— so useless. When I was younger (teens) I would type books to prove my point. Now, I look at something I disagree with and keep it moving lol. I don’t have the energy for it 😂
- Focus on what truly matters to you. This could mean spending more time with loved ones, pursuing hobbies, or simply enjoying the peace and quiet of your own company. It’s about finding joy in the simple things and letting go of the things that drain your energy.
- Learn to say ‘no’ and protect your time and energy.
- Embrace the art of letting go.
So, next time you find yourself getting annoyed by something, remember you’re not alone. We’re all in this together, one plate of chicken rice and one MRT ride at a time. Jia you!
